Bowlby Library announces November events
The Eva K. Bowlby Public Library in Waynesburg has announced the following events for November. For more information about any of the events, call the library at 724-627-9776.
n The library’s literacy department is offering free S.A.T. preparation classes to high school students in Greene County. The classes will be on Saturdays, Nov. 3, 10, and 17 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Students will be guided through study portions of the English, math and writing sections of the test. If you have a scientific calculator, bring it with you. Pre-registration is required. Each student that attends all three sessions will receive a set of Barron’s SAT study guides free.
n The library is celebrating National Gaming Day on Friday, Nov. 16 from 4 to 8 p.m. There will be lots of good old fashioned game playing for every member of the family, plus the library will be holding the fifth Annual Turkey Bowling Contest. Pre-register today by calling the library.
n The Bowlby Library Book Club will be meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 20 at 5 p.m. The book discussion will be “There Goes the Bride” by M.C. Beaton. New members are encouraged to attend.
n T.O.P.S. ~ Taking Off Pounds Sensibly is a weight management support group that meets every Saturday at the Bowlby Public Library from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. New members are always welcome.
n The Bowlby Public Library Board of Trustees will meet at the library on Monday, Nov. 26 at 6:30 p.m. The board meetings are free and open to the public.Community members are encouraged to attend. If there are specific issues you would like to raise or have interest in making a brief presentation during a community forum – held immediately preceding the board meeting – contact the director well in advance to give the library the best opportunity for accommodating you on the evening’s agenda. n Take the worry out of helping your child or youth with homework. Eva K. Bowlby Public Library is the place to be for children and youth in need of tutoring or after school help. Call the library to register your child/ youth to receive free tutoring help in reading, writing, math, science, social studies or a second language.
n The library’s adult literacy program offers free test preparation for the GED, civil service exams, and driver’s licensing and life skills. Also, any adult wishing to brush up on their basic reading and math skills can do so at no charge through the library’s literacy department. The literacy department also offers free tutoring for school-age children through the upcoming school year. Now is the time to focus on difficult subjects (reading, writing, and math) in a relaxed atmosphere while preparing for the fall. To make an appointment, or for more information, call the library.
n The Bowlby Public Library will be closed on Nov. 22 and 23 for the Thanksgiving holidays. The library will reopen on Saturday, Nov. 24 at 9:30 a.m.
