Waynesburg University’s Glenn A. & Jane L. Crosby Lecture Series will host Professor Allan H. Meltzer Monday, Oct. 1, at 7:30 p.m. in Alumni Hall on the campus of Waynesburg University. Admission is free, and the public is cordially invited to attend.

Meltzer, professor of political economy at Carnegie Mellon University, is the author of the landmark “History of the Federal Reserve” Volume 1 and Volume 2 and “Keynes’s Monetary Theory: A Different Interpretation.” His lecture will share the title of his February 2012 Oxford University Press book, “Why Capitalism?”

He has been recognized by several awards, including the Distinguished Fellow, American Economic Association in 2002; Lifetime Achievement, Money Marketeers, NYU in 1997; Man of the Year in Finance, Pittsburgh in 1995; and Distinguished Professional Achievement, UCLA in 1983. Meltzer received his bachelor’s degree and master’s degree at Duke University, and his Ph.D. at the University of California, Los Angeles. Meltzer holds a Ph.D. from the University of California, Los Angeles, and an M.A. and A.B. from Duke University.

The Glenn A. & Jane L. Crosby Lectures, funded by 1950 Magna Cum Laude graduates of Waynesburg University, Glenn A. and Jane Lichtenfels Crosby, bring to the University visiting scholars who are distinguished in their disciplines. During the visit, the scholars interact with faculty, staff and students, giving guest lectures in classes, formal presentations and informal group talks. The event culminates in a final public lecture.
