Walter H. Maund

Walter H. Maund, 85, passed away peacefully Thursday, April 11, 2013.

He was born January 27, 1928, in Rices Landing, the son of Walter H. Sr. and Mary McMichael Maund.

He graduated from Charleroi High School. Following high school, he served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II. He then enlisted in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.

Mr. Maund enjoyed a long and distinguished career as a riverboat captain working for various private lines and retired after 37 years as captain of the M.V. Chartiers, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

Following retirement, he and his wife moved to Sun City West, Ariz., where they enjoyed more than 20 years of nice weather and good times.

“A few of his favorite things” were playing cards, going out to eat, spending time with his granddaughters and musical theater.

On September 4, 1956, he married Anna Mae Cosgrove, who passed away in Arizona March 3, 2009.

Surviving are daughters Linda M. Pecharka of Washington and Amy (Frank) Mavrich, and two granddaughters.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Norma E. Celapino, and a brother, James, during infancy.
