Charles E. Hall
Charles E. Hall, 92, of Cheswick, Pa. and formerly of Greensboro (Mapletown), Pa., died at 11:40 p.m. on Saturday, December, 28, 2013 in Amber Woods at Harmar Village, Cheswick, Pa.
He was born September 4, 1921 in Harwick, Pa., a son of the late Harry Lee and Etta Mae (Fletcher) Hall.
Mr. Hall was a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh and was a member of the Mapletown United Methodist Church. He served with the U. S. Army Air Corps with the 66th Troop Carrier Squadron in the Southwest Pacific during World War II. Mr. Hall took part in more than 50 missions and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross in recognition of his courageous service to his combat organization, fellow American airman and his country. He enjoyed square dancing and traveling with his late wife, Pearl. Mr. Hall worked as a mine safety engineer at the former Duquesne Light Warwick Mine, retiring in 1986.
Mr. Hall was a member of Pollock Lodge No 512, F. & A. M., Tarentum, Pa., Scottish Rite Bodies in the Valley of Pittsburgh, Syria Temple, A. A. O. N. M. S., Caravan No. 9, Uniontown, Pa. and the Legion of Honor at Syria Temple. He was recently coroneted a thirty-third degree Mason in the Scottish Rite.
On July 27, 1953, he married Pearl C. Miller, who died April 11, 2006.
Surviving are a sister, Hilda Marie Suity of Harwick, Pa. and many nieces and nephews. Deceased are four brothers, Harry Lee Hall, William Paul Hall, Frank McDowell Hall and John C. Hall and two sisters, Marietta Buterbaugh and Emma Louise McSparrin.
Family and friends are welcome from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday in the Yoskovich Funeral Home (724-966-5500), Martin J. Yoskovich, Funeral Director, 300 South Vine Street (Route 88), Carmichaels, Pa. where the funeral service will take place at 12:00 Noon on Friday, January 3, 2014. The Rev. Dr. Steve Wilson will officiate. Military honors will be accorded by Cumberland American Legion Post 400, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3491 and the U. S. Air Force following the funeral service at the funeral home.
