Recreation offering ‘Aqua Zumba’ classes
After successful sessions on land earlier this year, the Greene County Department of Recreation is taking its Zumba classes to water.
Beginning in July, a six-week session of “Aqua Zumba” will be offered at Alpha Aquatic Center in Waynesburg.
“Aqua Zumba” will be held at the pool from 7:15 to 8:15 p.m. every Tuesday and Thursday from July 2 through Aug. 8. The Thursday, July 4 class will be held Wednesday, July 3.
Individual classes can be attended at a cost of $8 per class. Anyone wishing to attend all six weeks of the session, however, can pre-register at a discounted rate of $5 per class, for a total of $60. The early registration deadline is Monday, July 1.
Instructor Melissa Frameli will lead the classes. Attendees should bring a modest swimsuit, water and towels, as well as swim caps, nose and ear plugs and goggles as needed. A lifeguard will be on duty during each class.
The fitness program Zumba combines hip-hop music with dynamic, yet simple exercise moves. Benefits of Zumba include efficient calorie-burning, muscle toning and cardiovascular improvement. Zumba is recognized by leading fitness organizations, including the Aerobics and Fitness Association of America, the American Council on Exercise and Can-Fit-Pro, a Canadian fitness education organization.
