By For The Greene County Messenger 1 min read

Jeff Coss’ track & field squad was a bit short-staffed when Waynesburg Central hosted the WPIAL Class AA Team Track & Field semifinals on Wednesday, May 1, but the Lady Raiders put together a game effort, losing only to Southmoreland.

Waynesburg, the Section 6-AA champions, lost to the Lady Scots, 93-57, but defeated Our Lady of the Sacred Heart, 78-71, and Keystone Oaks, 79-66. Southmoreland advanced to the team finals, which were held at Baldwin High School on Thursday, May 9.

Skylar Braga (100, 13.0; triple jump, 32-4), Michelle Cesa (300 intermediate hurdles, 53.7), Annekah Marx (200, 27.9), Caitlin Brooks (long jump, 15-6), and Richelle Tharp (javelin, 113-4; shot put, 32-2; discus, 92-10) all earned first-place finishes against the Lady Scotties.

Tharp swept the throwing events from OLSH, as well. Brooks swept the long jump from both teams, as did Braga in the 100.

The Waynesburg boys had a rougher time, dropping all three meets. The Raiders lost to South Park, 118-32, Chartiers-Houston, 90-59, and Southmoreland, 103-47.

John Glenn Davis and Sean Hilverding had first-place finishes against South Park, with Davis winning the high jump (5-6) and Hilverding crossing the finish line first in the 3,200 (10:20).

South Park advanced to the team finals.
