Cumberland supervisors to review petition requesting noise ordinance
CUMBERLAND TWP. – Supervisors were presented with a petition containing more than 100 signatures of township residents requesting the township invoke a noise ordinance in the township.
The township doesn’t have an ordinance on its books governing public nuisances caused by excessive noise.
At a brief meeting held Monday, the supervisors accepted the petition and said they would take the request under advisement.
The request arises from residents’ complaints about guns being fired late at night.
Supervisors Chairman Bill Groves said, “Up until this time, we have not had a specific noise ordinance, but we will look into it.”
In other business, the supervisors voted to purchase a 2014 Viking Trailer at a cost of $13,920 through the Co-Stars program. Supervisor Jim Sokol explained the supervisors decided to purchase a new trailer because the current trailer is not designed to carry the amount of weight needed and is in need of numerous repairs.
The trailer will be used to haul the township’s road paver and backhoe.
Supervisors approved a motion to hold trick-or-treating in the township from 4-6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 27.
“There is no change in this day or time,” Groves said, “This is when trick-or-treating is normally held in the township.”
Another cleanup weekend for township residents was announced by the supervisors. It will be held on Oct. 26 and 27 from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m.
As in previous cleanups sponsored by the township no tires, liquids or appliances containing Freon will be accepted. Applicable appliances will only be accepted if properly tagged that the Freon has been removed.
Televisions and computer equipment will be accepted.
As in past cleanups, if the designated large trash container is filled on Saturday, the gates will be locked and no other items will be accepted on Sunday.
