COUNTY CALENDAR
CHURCH CELEBRATION – Valley Chapel Methodist Church is celebrating 150 years of worship on Golden Oaks Road in Holbrook. The celebration will include welcoming old and new members on Saturday, Sept. 7 at 7 p.m. with gospel music and an ice cream social at the church. On Sunday, Sept. 8 the church will have Sunday School at 10 a.m., a worship service at 11a.m. at the church, and a picnic right after in the Valley Chapel pavilion. SPECIAL SPEAKER – Cornerstone Genealogical Society will meet Tuesday, Sept. 10 at 7 p.m. at the Log Courthouse. The speaker will be Lynne Gough of Sacramento, California. She will talk about the daily diary of her ancestors who traveled from Jefferson, Pa. to Sacramento, California during the gold rush.
ALL-CLASS REUNION – Carmichaels Area High School and Cumberland Township High School will be holding an all-class reunion on Sept. 13 and 14 at the Carmichaels Firehall. ANNUAL FESTIVAL – The annual St. Hubert Heritage Festival will be held on Sadler Street in Point Marion on Saturday, Sept. 7. The event will feature a Polka Mass at 4 p.m., booths that will open at 3 p.m., a variety of ethnic foods available, children’s games, games of chance, a country store featuring purses and other miscellaneous items, multiple drawings for filled themed baskets, music by the Vibrations on the church grounds, and more.
YARD SALE – The annual town-wide yard sale in Rogersville will be held Saturday, Sept. 7 beginning at 8 a.m. The Center Twp. VFD Auxiliary will sell food and drinks beginning at 9 a.m. Table space available in fire hall parking lot at a cost of $5 per table. The Auxiliary will accept donations of “sellable” items. SPECIAL EVENT – A 9-11 Remembrance and First Responder Recognition will be held at 7 p.m. on Sept. 11 at the Rogersville United Methodist Church. All county emergency personnel are invited to be part of the ceremony and are asked to call 724-499-5590 if they plan to attend, or for more information. The public is invited to attend to show their support for the emergency personnel who serve their communities.
SQUARE DANCE – Square dancing (also line dancing, polkas, cake walk and more) will be held on Friday, Sept. 13 from 7-10 p.m. at the Rogersville Fire Hall. Caller will be Dave Dahl. HERITAGE FESTIVAL – On Saturday, Sept. 14, Ryerson Station State Park invites the public to attend the third annual Outdoor Heritage Festival. The event will be held at the park from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. in the Day Use Area. Activities will include: camping, fishing, geocaching, trail hiking and walking, historical and interpretive programs for children and adults, nature photography, wildlife monitoring, wildlife watching and birding. CAR CRUISE – The 12th Annual 50’s Fest and Car Cruise wuill be held in downtown Waynesburg on Saturday, Sept. 14. Come and check out over 300 hot rods, trucks and motorcycles. BOWLERS NEEDED – Bowlers or 5-team bowling teams are needed for Tuesday Women’s League at Yanak’s Bowling Lane in Jefferson. It is a non-smoking facility/league, smoke breaks between games outside. FARMERS’ MARKET – The Greensboro Farmers’ Market will be held, rain or shine, each Saturday morning from 9 a.m. to 1 pm., now through October. In case of severe weather warnings, the market may be postponed for opening or canceled.
