Barbara Jean (Buchanan) Shafer
Barbara Jean (Buchanan) Shafer, age 84, of Greensboro, Pa., passed away Wednesday, September 18, 2013 at 8:05 pm at Mountainview Rehabilitation Hospital.
Barbara was born on Sunday, February 3, 1929 in Morgantown, W.Va., the last surviving child of James and Gertrude (Hayes) Buchanan.
She attended local schools in West Virginia; worked at Westinghouse in Fairmont.
She was a member of the Mapletown United Methodist Church and was a former member of the Moose Lodge in Morgantown.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 64 years, Ralph Q. Shafer on May 15, 2011; one brother, Warren Buchanan; three sisters, Betsy Lorenz, Margaret Swyck and Ida Belle Campbell; special nieces, Patty Markley, Ethel Shreeves and JoAnn Buchanan Swiger; and her parents.
Barbara is survived by one daughter and spouse, Linda and Joe Kois Jr., granddaughter, Michelle Renee Kois, and two great granddaughters, Christal and Rhianna, all of Greensboro, Pa.; several nieces and nephews including nieces Doris, Janet and Sharon Lorenz of California state, Sandra Romano of Fairmont, West Virginia and nephews Charles D. “Danny” Campbell and wife Catherine of Greensburg, Pa., and Lawrence K. Stieringer and wife JoAnn of Laurel Point, West Virginia; and her “favorite” nieces and nephew: Linda Stimmell, Robert Stimmell and wife Nicole of Morgantown, Chasity Soccorsi and husband Adel of Doha, Qatar.
Friends may call at the McCULLA FUNERAL HOME, 770 Fairmont Road, Morgantown, West Virginia 26501 Sunday from 2 to 7 p.m. and Monday, September 23, from 12:30 p.m. until the 1:30 p.m. Funeral Service with Pastor Rose Saunders officiating.
Burial will follow at Beverly Hills Cemetery.
