Mary S. Prodan
Mary S. Prodan, age 93, Carmichaels died April 21, 2014 in her home.
Mrs. Prodan was born July 27, 1920 in Nemacolin, the daughter of the late Joseph and Effie Palen Sertich.
In May 1948, Mary married Alex W. Prodan who died August 18, 2005.
Mrs. Prodan is survived by three children, Eve M. Smitley (Scott Kramer), Lex V. Prodan (Denise), Donald C. Prodan (Brenda), all of Carmichaels; five grandchildren, Tricia Pratt, Rachelle Katruska, Shaun Smitley, Travis A. and Grant A. Prodan; three great-grandchildren, Mason Pratt, Jillian and Jacob Katruska; two step-grandchildren, Jonathan and Joshua Sloan.
Also surviving is a brother, Joseph Sertich Jr. (Stella) of Carmichaels; a sister, Josephine McGuiness, of San Antonio; a sister-in-law, Jeanie Sertich, of San Antonio and many nieces and nephews.
Deceased in addition to her parents and husband are a brother, Dr. Anthony P. Sertich, and two nephews, Joey and John J. Sertich.
Mrs. Prodan worked in the family business, the Sertich General Store, in her youth. The store was a gathering place during World War II for families trying to find out about their sons and daughters serving in the war and in war production. The store was one of the few places in the area at the time that had a telephone.
Mrs. Prodan was a member of St. Hugh Roman Catholic Church, Carmichaels, the Altar-Rosary Society, the Choir, and Senior Citizens Group.
She was proud of her Croatian heritage. She and Alex loved to polka dance.
Friends will be received in the Lesako Funeral Home, Inc., 204 Dowlin Avenue, Carmichaels, Pa. 15320, (724-966-5100), Paul M. Lesako Funeral Director/Supervisor/Owner on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., and Friday from 9 to 10:00 a.m. A Prayer Service will be held in the Funeral Home Chapel followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 with the Reverend John Bauer, Celebrant.
Interment will follow in Greene County Memorial Park, Waynesburg.
A Parish Wake Service will be held at 6:00 p.m. Thursday in the Funeral Home.
