Hallie Lee McNeely
Hallie Lee McNeely, 77, of Mena, Ark., formerly of Greene County, died Tuesday, April 15, 2014, in his home.
He was born February 3, 1937, a son of the Harry Randolph and Nellie Blanche Huffman McNeely.
Mr. McNeely’s first eight years of schooling were in a one-room school. He then attended Jefferson High School for three years. On February 18, 1954, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps at the age of 17. He was honorably discharged February 17, 1962. He was a member of American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. After his military service, he lived in Falls Church, Va., and worked for Trailways Bus Co., Dulles Airport and was a mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service. Later, he moved to the state of California, where he drove tractor trailers and hauled produce. He returned to Pennsylvania for a few years, and then moved to Mena, where he worked as a groundskeeper for the U.S. Forestry Commission.
He was a loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He will be greatly missed.
Surviving are sons, Keith Douglas Hammond of West Virginia and Ervin (Tammy) Pringle of Mena; daughter, Cathy (Virgil) Gardner of Acorn, Ark.; grandchildren, Cody, Mary Jane and Tiffany Lopez, Brittany and Cole Doyle and Josh Lee and Brandy, all of Mena; great-grandchildren, Haley, Brody and Ashlyn; sister, Betty J. McNeely Manrow of Washington; brothers, Scott H. (Dorothy), Douglas M. (Christine), both of Jefferson, Allen B., Frank H. and William A. (Virginia), all of Waynesburg; sisters-in-law, Nancy McNeely of Waynesburg and JoAnn Taylor of Morgantown, W.Va.; brother-in-law, Robert Dugan of Washington; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Deceased, in addition to his parents, are sisters, Helen Dugan and Lois McNeely; and brothers, George R. and Arleigh G.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
