James W. Maize
James W. Maize, 84, of Waynesburg, died at 9:42 a.m. Monday, August 18, 2014, at the Hawthorne Woods in Washington, Pa.
He was born Wednesday, August 21, 1929 in Uniontown, a son of the late Joseph Maize and Ann Robbins Maize. Mr. Maize has lived in Greene County since 1941.
Mr. Maize was a member of the Washington St. United Methodist Church in Waynesburg. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army having served during the Korean War. He was a member of the L.O.O.M. #461 and a Life Member of the the former BPO Elks Lodge #757 both of Waynesburg. Mr. Maize was also a member of the Filer-Sadlek American Legion Post #0954 of Jefferson and the V.F.W. Post #4793 of Waynesburg. He was a member of the Jefferson Hotel Football Club, Rohanna’s Golf Course, PSEA-NEA retired, the P.A.S.R., and the Wileymen of Waynesburg College having played for Jack Wiley.
Mr. Maize enjoyed carpentry, and collecting state quarters. For the past 20 years he enjoyed spending the winters in Jupiter, Florida.
He was a graduate of Waynesburg High School class of 1948 and Waynesburg College class of 1957. Mr. Maize was a teacher in the Central Greene School District for 34 years retiring in 1990.
He is survived by his wife, Mildred Stephenson Maize, whom he married on June 10, 1955.
Also surviving are one daughter, Lyndall Lawrence, of Mather; one son, Joseph (Kim) Maize, of Peters Twp.; five grandchildren, Ryan Maize, Aaron Maize, Joshua Lawrence, Terry Lynn Lawrence, Brad (Jess) Lawrence; two great grandchildren, Bryce Michael Maize and Acie Lee Lawrence and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased are one sister, Irma Jean Wallace and one brother, J. R. Maize.
Friends will be received from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 20, 2014 in Milliken and Throckmorton Funeral Home, Inc., Daryl L. Throckmorton, Owner/Director, 197 N. Maiden St., Waynesburg, PA 15370 where services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 21, 2014 with Rev. William Parker officiating. Burial will be private at the Greene Co. Memorial Park, Morgan Twp., Greene County.
Filer-Sadlek American Legion Post #0954 will accord Military Honors at the funeral home on Thursday.
