West Greene senior killed in car crash
Jesse Michael Benson, 18, of Wind Ridge, died in a car crash Tuesday morning, according to state police.
State police said Benson was traveling at a high rate of speed at 7:51 a.m. on Route 21 at Grange Road in Gray Township, Greene County, attempting to pass a line of traffic on his left.
According to police, Brian Eugene Debolt, 42, of Cameron, West Virginia, was traveling east on Route 21 and attempted to make a left turn on Grange Road but clipped Benson’s car has he passed. Benson’s car slid off the road, rolled and began to flip end over end, ejecting Benson, who was not wearing his seat belt, police said.
Benson was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
Mary Lewis, chief deputy coroner for Greene County, said the autopsy was scheduled for Tuesday afternoon but has not yet been completed. She said it will be completed by Dr. Cyril Wecht.
Benson was a senior at West Greene High School.
