Virginia (Conaway) Harvey
Virginia (Conaway) Harvey, age 86, Hiller, Pa., passed away Sunday, November 30, 2014 in the Mon Valley Hospital.
She was born Tuesday, February 14, 1928 in Waynesburg, Pa., a daughter of Howard Lee Conaway and Louie Belle (Cumberledge) Conaway.
Virginia was a lifelong dedicated member of the American Legion Auxiliary John F. Kennedy Post 377 in California, Pennsylvania where she served as President for over 40 years. She spent those years supporting programs for veterans.
She was a member of the Washington, Fayette and Greene County Council and served many offices and chairmanships.
On the state level, Virginia served as District President and Western Vice President.
Virginia enjoyed her work as a bartender at the California American Legion and later was a bartender at the Centerville Legion, from which she retired at the age of 80.
In addition to her parents, Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, George W. Harvey Sr.; one brother, Robert; sisters, Marge, Ruth, Dorothy, Marlene; and one granddaughter, Mary Ellen Shook.
Left to cherish her memory are her children George W. Harvey Jr. and his wife Nancy of Layton, Pa., Shelia Kendall and her husband James, West Brownsville, Pa., Linda Smith and husband Cecil of Dearth, Pa., and Joyce Shook of California, Pennsylvania; 12 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, and eight great great grand children. Also surviving are two sisters: Paulette and Jean both of Waynesburg, Pa.; and numerous nieces and nephews that she adored very much.
Friends will be received in the MARISCOTTI FUNERAL HOME INC., Anthony N. Mariscotti, Supervisor, 323 Fourth Street, California, Pa., today, December 2, from 7 to 9 p.m., Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. and on Thursday, December 4, 2014 until 11:00 a.m., the hour of Service with Rev. David Benner officiating.
Interment will follow in Lafayette Memorial Park, Brier Hill, Pa.
