Gifts for Golden Living

WAYNESBURG – Morgan Voithofer, 2014 Miss Rain Day, knows first-hand how nursing home residents can be forgotten during the holidays.
Morgan’s mother, Heather, is the assistant activity director at the Golden Living Center in Waynesburg; Morgan has spent numerous occasions visiting patients or singing to them over the years when stopping in to see her mother at work.
As her individual service project as Miss Rain Day, Morgan wanted to help the residents at Golden Living Center have a happier holiday; thus, she came up with “Gifts for Golden Living,” an “angel” tree project for the permanent residents for Christmas. Many residents find themselves alone during the holidays or without any gifts from loved ones. Morgan feels strongly that “everyone deserves to smile on Christmas.”
Although the “angel” tags were quickly spoken for, donations are always needed and appreciated. Stocking stuffer ideas include: socks (preferably white crew), throw blankets, hats, scarves, gloves, nightgowns, woman’s button-down sweaters (various sizes), sweatpants (various sizes, male and female) and small CD players (used that work are acceptable).
Any type of donation is useful and appreciated. Unwrapped donations can be dropped off at Golden Living Center, located at 300 Center Avenue in Waynesburg. Please indicate that the donated items are for the Miss Rain Day Project, Attention Heather Voithofer. The items must be dropped off no later than Dec. 17.
“Morgan has been volunteering (here) for several years at this facility,” said Jill Wolfe, activity director at Golden Living Center. “We have always been happy to support her and it is so wonderful that she continues to give back to us by placing her tree here to make the residents’ Christmas a lot brighter.”
The Christmas party for the residents is scheduled for Dec. 20 at the center, and Morgan plans to be in attendance to help distribute the gifts and sing Christmas carols, to share the spirit of the holiday with a few dear souls who will undoubtedly be smiling this year.
