Rohanna advances to weekend in Argentina Open

Robert Rohanna gave back two shots Friday in the second round of the 109th VISA Open de Argentina presented by Peugeot, but his two-day score of even-par 142 made the cut in the final event of the PGA TOUR Latinoamerica season.

The Waynesburg Central graduate shot a 2-over 73 after opening with a 2-under 71. He started the day tied for 24th place, but slipped into a tie for 29th. The cut for the low 55 scores (and ties) was at 3-over 145.

Columbia’s Marcelo Ruiz is alone in first place at 10-under 132 (65-67).

Rohanna opened with a bogey on No. 1, but managed to make the turn at 1-under 35 after a birdie-4 on No. 3 and an eagle-3 on No. 8 before closing with a bogey-5.

Rohanna was sailing along on the back nine when he ran into a tough stretch after five consecutive pars. He bogeyed Nos. 14, 15 and 16 to lose not only the stroke he gained on the front nine, but the two he had from the first round.

He parred out to play the back in 3-over 38.

“(It was) super windy!,” Rohanna said via Facebook Messenger. “I played really well. I just didn’t score well and missed some easy putts.”

Rohanna attributed two of his three bogeys on the back nine to poor play on the green.

“I 3-putted No. 14 after two great shots and 3-putted No. 16, as well. I was in bad spots (on the green), but I missed makeable putts,” explained Rohanna.

“It was tough today though, I tried and hit it pretty well considering.

“I was right in between a lot today, meaning I had in-between irons all day and the wind was swirling.”

The final event on the Latin America tour is Argentina’s national championship, as well.

“This is the U.S. Open of Argentina. The pins are tough and you can’t miss fairways,” said Rohanna.
