Rohanna finishes tied for 18th in abbreviated tourney

By Jim Downey, For The Greene County Messenger 2 min read

Rain and inclement weather forced 21 golfers off Las Praderas Club Campos de Golf last Saturday and conditions forced another postponement Sunday, causing organizers to cut the Personal Classic in Buenos Aires, Argentina, to 54 holes.

Robert Rohanna was a little disappointed he wasn’t able to get in a fourth round, but his 6-under 66 on Saturday allowed him to finish in the top 20 in the next-to-last PGA TOUR Latinoamerica tournament.

Rohanna was one of three golfers to finish in a tie for 18th with a three-round total of 10-under 206. Rohanna won $2,100, but slid to 10th on the Order of Merit with earnings of $46,597.

Argentina’s Fabian Gomez finished with a 24-under 192 to win the top prize of $27,000.

Rohanna had two rounds of 2-under to advance to the weekend and then rolled in a few putts in the third round to shoot 66.

“So, the fourth round got cancelled and we didn’t play today, but the people who didn’t finish have to come back tomorrow,” Rohanna said Sunday via Facebook Messenger. “It kind of stinks because I can’t move up unless they don’t finish well.”

The Waynesburg Central graduate was also gaining momentum, as he tends to do, in the weekend rounds.

“I’ve tended to have good weekends,” said Rohanna. “Unfortunate that I don’t get to finish because I was hoping to have a good week and move up the Order of Merit. But, everything happens for a reason I guess.”

The final tournament of the season remains in the Buenos Aires region, about 40 miles away from Las Praderas. The 109th VISA Open de Argentina presented by Peugeot will be held at the Martindale Country Club.

Rohanna then returns to Florida to play in the final stage of PGA Q School.
