Strong final round nets Rohanna top-10 finish

The winds at Martindale Country Club near Buenos Aires, Argentina, settled down Sunday afternoon and so did the scores in the final round of the 109th VISA Open de Argentina presented by Peugeot.

Robert Rohanna made the most of the tranquil conditions to post a score of 7-under 64 and move into a tie for seventh place at 8-under 276 in the final PGA TOUR Latinoamerica event of the season.

Argentina’s Emiliano Grillo won his country’s national championship with a four-day total of 18-under 266.

“The wind was down today because the storm went through, so it did play easier,” Rohanna said of Martindale Country Club via Facebook Messenger.

Rohanna put up four birdies to just one bogey on the front nine to go out in 3-under 33.

“I hit into a bunker and it rolled up against the lip. I chipped out and hit it to 10 feet, but that was one of the (putts) I missed,” said Rohanna.

Rohanna kept up his stellar play on the back nine, starting with an eagle-3 on No. 12. It was his third eagle in as many rounds.

“I heard an eagle a day is a good thing,” Rohanna said with a chuckle.

He added back-to-back birdies on Nos. 14-15 to complete his back nine in 4-under 31.

“The putter was going well. I made some good putts on the front,” said Rohanna. “Then, I started making good swings and hitting shots where I wanted to.

“I had it going today. I left a few out there, too. I’m saving them for next week.”

“Next week” in the final stage of PGA Q School which runs from Dec. 11 through Dec. 16.

“Just a little momentum!,” said Rohanna of the effect of his solid final round. “Another solid event in the books. Hopefully, I just continue to play well and qualify! That’s all I can ask for.”
