Rohanna closes out LPGA Q School with 2-over round

By Jim Downey, For The Greene County Messenger 2 min read

Rachel Rohanna was hoping to go out on a high note, but pressed on the final hole Saturday and finished with a double bogey to close out her first trip to the final stage of LPGA Q School with a four-round total of 10-over 298.

Rohanna battled back to even par for the round, but took a double bogey on the final hole to finish her round on the LPGA International Jones course in 2-over 74.

The low 70 and ties advanced to today’s fifth and final round.

The Waynesburg Central graduate opened on No. 10 and, as she did when she played the course earlier in the week, had a steady opening nine holes with eight pars and one birdie to go out in 1-under 35.

Rohanna gave the stroke back with a bogey on No. 1 and slipped with a double bogey on No. 4.

She recovered with back-to-back birdies on Nos. 5 and 6 to pull back to even in the final round.

Then, she came to the final hole of a long week — and season — and made a decision to go for it on the par-5.

“I think my swing was a little too hard. I tried to get it out there anyway,” said Rohanna, who finished with a double bogey on the final hole.

“I knew I wasn’t going to make it. I think the highest I could’ve shot was a 74. I lipped out five putts for birdies.”

Rohanna was pleased with how she played for most of the week and enjoyed the experience.

“Overall, I’m pretty happy with the way I hit the ball,” said Rohanna. “I had no 3-putts. That’s a positive.”

The 81 she shot in the third round was the only really poor round she had of the four.

“I could’ve shot a lot better in the third round,” said Rohanna. “There were three shots I didn’t hit very well. Other than that, I played well.

“I don’t know how 81 creeped up on me.”

Rohanna and her mother/caddy Debbie Rohanna were driving home from Daytona Beach as she looked to next year.

“I’ll take this into next year on the Symetra Tour. I’ll take a month off and then go to Florida or Arizona to work on my game,” said Rohanna.
