Dunkard Township gas well fire no longer burning

1 min read

Chevron reports that the fire is no longer burning at the natural gas well site in Dunkard Township

Lee Ann Wainright, spokesperson for Chevron, said Sunday that the two wells were no longer burning as of 3 p.m. Saturday.

“It is premature to speculate on what caused the flames to go out,” she said. “However, we do know that at this time, there is not enough fuel being emitted to sustain combustion, and with the cooling of the crane, the ignition source has been removed.”

The fire began at 6:45 a.m. Tuesday when an explosion rocked the Lanco 7H Marcellus shale well pad in Dunkard Township and resulted in a fire that continued through the week until Saturday.
