Rachel Rohanna finishes tied for 27th in opening event
Rachel Rohanna slipped several places in the final round of the Mesa Gateway Classic Sunday, but still had a top-30 finish in the opening tournament of the Symetra Tour hosted by Longbow Golf Club in Mesa, Ariz.
The Waynesburg Central graduate shot a 1-over 73 in the third round after carding 1-under 71 in the first two rounds to finish with a 1-under 215. Rohanna was one of eight golfers at 215. Canadian Alena Sharp, the second-round leader, finished first with a 12-under 204 after carding a 1-under 71 in the final round.
Rohanna had an up-and-down final round with a bogey-4 on No. 3, followed by a birdie-3 on No. 4. She had a bogey-4 on No. 7 to go out in 1-over 37.
She had a bogey-4 on No. 11, then recovered with a birdie-3 on No. 14 and a birdie-4 on No. 15. Rohanna closed her round with a bogey-6 on No. 18 to come back in even-par 36.
Rohanna hit 9-of-14 fairways and 14-of-18 greens in regulation in the final round. She had 33 putts (33 in the first round and 31 in the second) and averaged 272 yards on her drives in the third round.
For the tournament, Rohanna hit 28-of-42 fairways and 44-of-54 greens in regulation. She had an average driving distance of 261.67 yards.
The tour moves to City of Industry, Calif., this week for the Volvik Championship.
