Margaret Jean (Wolfe) Ponick, 69, of Carmichaels, PA, passed away on Wednesday, February 26, 2014 at UPMC Mercy Hospital, Pittsburgh, PA.

She was born in Georges Township on September 14, 1944, daughter of Earl Donald Wolfe who died in 1950, Emma Pearl (Dillow) Wolfe Smith, who died in 1997, and stepdaughter of the late Steve Smith.

In addition to her parents and stepfather, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 51 years, Richard G. Ponick, Sr. whom she wed on November 19, 1963; also two brothers, Earl James Wolfe and Kenneth Wayne Dillow, and a sister-in-law, Jamie Dillow.

Margaret’s life revolved around her children and grandchildren whom she cherished. She loved to cook, do crafts, and crochet, and made a wonderful home for her family. Most of her life she lived in Masontown, and had been employed at the former Masontown Shirt Factory for many years. She moved to Carmichaels following her husband’s death in 1997.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Patty Gacek and husband Joe of Bobtown, Pa, Richard G. Ponick, Jr. and wife Jan of Carmichaels, PA, Anna Knox and husband Rick of Masontown, PA; grandchildren, Howie Pierce and wife Alissa, Nicole Gacek, Matthew Gacek, Alexa Ponick, and Garrett Ponick; a sister, Catherine Navarro and husband Hector of Uniontown, PA; a brother, Paul Smith and wife Lorraine of Masontown, PA; and good friends, Linda Lint and husband Bill of Connellsville, PA.

Friends will be received at the HAKY

FUNERAL HOME, INC., 515 N. MAIN ST., MASONTOWN, PA, on Sunday, March 2, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Monday, March 3, from 8 a.m. until 9:30 a.m., when prayers of Transfer will be said.

The Funeral Mass will follow at 10 a.m. in St. Francis of Assisi Parish, 101 S. Washington St., Masontown, PA, with Rev. Father William G. Berkey as Celebrant.

Interment will follow at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, St. Mary Cemetery, Leckrone, PA.
