Rohanna misses Staal Open cut by one stroke

Missing the cut in a golf tournament is frustrating. Missing the cut by one stroke is upsetting, especially after a strong first round.

That’s what happened to Robert Rohanna on July 18 after he fell short of advancing to the weekend at the PGA TOUR Canada Staal Foundation Open presented by Tbaytel. After opening with a 3-under 69, Rohanna slipped to 3-over 75 to miss the cut by one stroke with a two-round total of even-par 144.

“I’d say I’m upset with myself if I really felt that way, but I don’t,” Rohanna said via Facebook Messenger. “It’s a bummer I missed by one (stroke) though, that always sucks.”

The Waynesburg Central grad uncharacteristically had four 3-putts on Whitewater Golf Club in Thunder Bay, Ont. Rohanna closed out with four pars and a round-closing birdie.

“I had four 3-putts, but I actually played pretty good with all aspects. I feel I putted well. I just had some bad speeds on some putts,” explained Rohanna. “The wind was out of control (Friday) and the greens got really firm. Downwind holes had front pins and into the wind holes had back pins. I landed a few on the front and they would go to the back, and then I had 40-feet and 3-putted.

“Then the next time I’d land it in the front and it wouldn’t bounce. It was just one of those days.”

Rohanna was debating what his next event would be. “I’m not really sure yet. It could be one of these (PGA TOUR Canada events) and then the state open or just the state open (on Aug. 4-5) for now and then get ready for the Latin (PGA TOUR Latinoamerica) again,” said Rohanna. “I really don’t know yet.”
