Fatal crash, multiple DUI arrests reported in Greene County
WAYNESBURG – State police in Waynesburg reported several vehicular-related incidents that occurred on Greene County roadways this past week, including a fatal crash, a police chase and multiple unrelated arrests for driving under the influence of alcohol.
Woman killed in crash
State police said a Greensboro woman was killed Sunday after her vehicle crashed into a tree in Greene Township.
Police identified Kristina Lynn Wilson, 29, as the woman killed in the crash that happened around 1 a.m. on Bobtown Road near Mapletown Road.
Police said Wilson was believed to be traveling at a high rate of speed when she lost control of her Cadillac and struck a tree alongside Bobtown Road.
Wilson was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, police said.
Police are continuing to investigate and no additional information about the crash was available by press time.
Driver arrested after police chase
State police said a Waynesburg man was arrested on multiple charges following a chase that occurred on several Greene County roads on April 27.
Stephen Charles Bihun, 39, was charged with resisting arrest, fleeing, driving under the influence, driving under DUI suspension, habitual offender and numerous summary offenses.
Police said they attempted to stop Bihun at around midnight April 27 while he was traveling in his 2000 Ford F-150 truck on North Porter Street in Franklin Township, but he refused to stop. Police said during the pursuit, Bihun was traveling at speeds up to 85 mph.
Police deployed spike strips at Toll Gate Run Road in Franklin Township, but Bihun continued to elude police along Route 21 even though all four of his tires were deflated. Police later apprehended Bihun after a foot pursuit and brief struggle.
Bihun refused to submit to a blood test, but police obtained a search warrant and were able to retrieve a blood sample, according to reports.
He was then arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Glenn Bates and was placed in Greene County Jail in lieu of $7,500 straight cash bail, police said.
His preliminary hearing has been scheduled for May 7.
Woman charged in DUI crash
State police said a New Freeport woman was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and resisting arrest following a crash that occurred in Freeport Township on Monday.
Nicole L. Spencer, 32, was traveling on Main Street in New Freeport at 4 p.m. April 28 when she crashed her vehicle, according to reports.
Police said Spencer then fled the scene and was later located at a residence in New Freeport; when officers found Spencer at the residence, she displayed signs of intoxication and subsequently resisted arrest.
Spencer was taken into custody and arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Glenn Bates. She was placed in Greene County Jail in lieu of $5,000 straight cash bail but later posted bail. Her preliminary hearing has been scheduled for May 8.
Checkpoint held
The Pennsylvania State Police and its members are committed to ensuring that the highways of the commonwealth are safe for its citizens and for the motoring public.
To further this commitment, members of Troop B – Waynesburg’s Patrol Unit conducted a DUI Sobriety Checkpoint on April 25. The purpose of the checkpoint was to detect and arrest individuals impaired by alcohol or drugs and who were traveling on the highways throughout Greene County.
The checkpoint resulted in 71 motorists contacted, two DUI arrests, 24 traffic citations and 19 written warnings.
