Derwyn Chris Dunlap
Derwyn Chris Dunlap, 79, of Carmichaels, Pa., passed away quietly at 5:31 p.m. on Saturday, May 3, 2014 in his home surrounded by his loved ones.
He was born August 5, 1934 in Arnold City, Pa., a son of the late James and Mary (Corbish) Dunlap.
Mr. Dunlap was a 1952 graduate of Masontown (Pa.) High School and served with the U. S. Navy on the aircraft carrier the U. S. Ticonderoga. He worked as a professional boilermaker for over 30 years with Boilermakers Local 667, Charleston, W. Va. and retired in 1996.
Mr. Dulap was an active Mason and a member of Waynesburg Lodge No. 153, F. & A. M., the Uniontown Lodge of Perfection, Scottish Rite Bodies in the Valley of Pittsburgh, Syria Temple, A. A. O. N. M. S., Caravan No. 9, Uniontown, Pa., the Tall Cedars of Lebanon Fayco Forest No. 152, Smock, Pa., Hillbilly Clan No. 53 of the Three Rivers and Amvets General Marshall Post 103, Hopwood, Pa. He sought and raised much money through these organizations for the betterment and care of children and for the hospitals that they fund. His favorite saying was “no man stands so tall as when he stoops to help a child”.
On August 11, 1956 he married his wife of 57 years, Garnet Dennis, who survives.
Also surviving are three children, Keith Dunlap and wife Tammie (Dychko) of Dilliner, Pa., Beth (Darke) Dunlap and her husband, Roger and Susan Dunlap and her companion, Greg Betchy, all of Carmichaels; five grandchildren, Kevin Rohland and his wife, Melissa, of Denbo, Pa., Miranda Newcomer and Kristen Newcomer, both of Phoenix, Ariz., Alexis Armel of Uniontown and Logan Dunlap and Landon Dunlap, both of Dilliner and two great grandchildren, Brittany and David. Deceased in addition to his parents are a brother, Donald Dunlap.
At the request of Derwyn and his family, there will be no public viewing or funeral service. The Yoskovich Funeral Home (724-966-5500), Martin J. Yoskovich, Funeral Director, 300 South Vine Street (Route 88), Carmichaels, Pa. is in charge of arrangements.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children, Office of Development, 2900 Rocky Point Dr., Tampa, FL 33607.
