Thomas J. Mullen
Thomas J. Mullen, 89, of Waynesburg, formerly of Mather, died Monday, April 28, 2014, in Respi Center, Waynesburg.
He was born July 25, 1924, in Charleroi, a son of the late Patrick J. and Emmaline E. Vellettay Mullen.
Mr. Mullen served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He worked as a coal miner in Consol’s Humphrey No. 7 mine; retiring in 1986.Mr. Mullen lived most of his life in Mather and was Catholic. He was a member of United Mine Workers of America and a former member of American Legion in Centerville.
On December 20, 1961, he married Dorothy Michener, who died April 29, 1997.
Surviving are two sons, Terry M. Mullen of Waynesburg and Thomas S. Mullen (Rose) of Parma, Ohio; five grandsons, Patrick S. Mullen and Erik Mullen, both of Mather, and Thomas Mullen, James Mullen and Charles Mullen, all of Cleveland, Ohio; nine great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mary Timko of Richeyville.
Deceased are a son, James Mullen; a great-grandson, Shane Christopher Mullen; and a sister, Patty Deblock.
A graveside memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, May 3, in Bethlehem Lutheran Cemetery, 21 Church Road, Scenery Hill, PA 15360, with the Rev. Francis Frazer.
