Robert Rohanna played his way into his third top-10 finish on the PGA TOUR Latinoamerica Sunday by shooting a 4-under 68 in the final round of the Dominican Republic Open for a four-day total of 7-under 281.

Rohanna finished in a four-way tie for eighth place, earning $4,200. He moved into ninth place on the Order of Merit with $22,117.

Michael Buttacavoli defeated fellow American Rick Cochran III on the third playoff hole for the title. Both golfers finished at 12-under 276.

Rohanna had rounds of 71, 68 and 74 on the first three days of the tournament held at Teeth of the Dog, Caso de Campo.

Rohanna had three birdies on the front nine in the final round to go out in 3-under 33. He birdied Nos. 14 and 15 to go to 8-under, but gave one stroke back with the only bogey of final 18 holes on No. 16.

“I played well today. I had it going for a while, but missed a couple on the back,” said Rohanna via Facebook Messenger. “I played pretty solid. I missed four greens today and hit a good amount of fairways, too. It was just a solid day.”

Rohanna had to deal with inclement weather early in his final round.

“It rained our first seven holes today, so I was happy to get through that with the golf scores (1-under). Then I birdied Nos. 8 and 9,” explained Rohanna.

Rohanna had a bit of misfortune after he made the turn on No. 10, a par-4.

“I hit the flag stick with my second shot and bounced to about four feet, and I missed it,” said Rohanna. “The only bogey was on No. 16. It was a poor chip, but still had an 8-footer and left it short in the heart.”

According to Rohanna, the later tee times missed the weather.

“The leaders got lucky today. They didn’t have to play in any rain and the wind died down considerably, like after a storm when there is nothing.”

Rohanna wondered what might’ve been had he not shot 2-over in the third round on Saturday.

“(Sunday’s round) was a good turnaround from yesterday,” said Rohanna. “(Saturday’s) round is the story. It just didn’t go my way and to win out here you need a whole week.”

Rohanna leaves the Dominican Republic for the next stop in Panama feeling good about his game.

“I feel pretty good. I hit it well all week,” said Rohanna.

“It was an awesome golf course and I had some fun.”
