James P. Gluvna

James P. “Jim” Gluvna, 59, Bradenton, Florida, passed away October 11, 2014.
Born in Waynesburg, he moved to Bradenton in 1977 from Columbus, Ohio.
A Graduate of Mapletown High School in 1972 he went on to college at Ohio State University and graduated with his BS in Pharmacy. While in college Jim lived in the Stadium Scholarship Dormitory. He was member of the Pharmacy Drug Abuse Committee and president of the Phi Delta Chi Pharmacy Fraternity for three years. He received the Rexall Achievement Award for Community involvement. Jim’s career spanned 37 years. He worked for Eckerd Drugs from 1977-1982. He was the first Pharmacy manager in Sarasota for Publix Supermarkets from 1988-1990. He was partner/owner in two Bradenton pharmacies, Mt Vernon Pharmacy from 1982-1988 and Garrett’s Drugs from 1990-2006. He worked for Walgreens from 2006 to 2014 when he retired.
His past memberships include Manasota Pharmacy Association and APHA. Jim was a lifetime member of OSU Alumni, OSU Pharmacy Alumni Association, and Manasota OSU Alumni Association. Current memberships include Florida Pharmacy Association; Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus (K of C) council #13341/ K of C Assembly. Jim was a major sponsor of Bradenton Ballet Repertoire. He was the Cub and Boy Scouts Committee Leader from 1985-1999, Jim also enjoyed sponsoring dozens of T-Ball, Little League, Volleyball, Hockey and Baseball teams at MCC and local high schools.
James is pre-deceased by his parents, Joseph P. Sr. and Mary C. Gluvna and a brother, Joseph P. Jr.
He is survived by his life partner, Delores E Pufahl of Myakka City, Florida; two sons, James P., II (Sara) of Bradenton, Joseph P. of Reunion, Florida; daughter, Jennifer E. of Daytona Beach, Florida; four brothers, Frank M. (Renee) of Sarasota, Florida, George S. (Barbara) of Northridge, California, Edward J. (Pam) of Greensboro, Pennsylvania and William M. of Wareham, Massachusetts; a sister, Mary Jo Ryan (Jim) of Lombard, Illinois. Jim is also survived by a sister-in-law, Dee of Hershey, Pennsylvania; a granddaughter, Madelynn Elizabeth and aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Christian Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, October 15, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church, 12905 E, SR 70, Lakewood Ranch, Florida, 34202.
In Lieu of flowers at Jim’s request donations may be made to the Knights of Columbus Council # 13341 (c/o Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church at the above address).
