A celebration 100 years in the making
BOBTOWN – Mary Elizabeth Craft Forkin of Bobtown celebrated her 100th birthday on Aug. 22, and friends and family joined her at the Bobtown Shannopin Community Hall with an open reception to celebrate the monumental occasion.
Though Forkin has been a resident of Bobtown for over 80 years, she was originally from Keisterville. She was born on Aug. 22, 1914, and graduated from Uniontown High School.
She moved to Bobtown after marrying her husband, Richard Forkin of Keisterville.
The two were married on June 11, 1934.
Richard and Mary Forkin had four children together: Shirley of Bobtown; Richard, who is deceased; Dale of Royersford, Pa.; and Darlene of Morgantown, W. Va.
Over the years, Mary has watched her family grow and flourish through the generations.
Mary has 10 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and six great-great grandchildren.
Mary Forkin continues to enjoy attending church at the Bobtown United Methodist Church. She is also a member of United Methodist Women, a community of women within the Methodist denomination that offers fellowship and aims to participate in global ministries of the church.
In addition to her involvement with the church, Mary Forkin found other ways to reach out to the community; she was a founding member of the Bobtown Senior Citizens and served as a secretary for 15 years.
Having lived through a century of history, Forkin has made many memories and impacted those around her in many ways. Those close to her are excited to commemorate the impressive benchmark of year 100 for Mary Forkin.
The family would like to thank all of those who sent cards and celebrated with Mary on her birthday.
