Shirley Ann Lazear

Shirley Ann Lazear, 78, of Wind Ridge, died at 7:43 p.m. Monday, September 22, 2014, in her home, after being in failing health for the past several years.

She was born November 2, 1935, in Waynesburg, a daughter of the late Gerald and Genevieve Clair “Babe” Grim Headley.

Mrs. Lazear had resided in Akron, Ohio, and Cameron and Rock Lick, W.Va., prior to returning to Greene County and Wind Ridge.

She was a member of Wind Ridge Christian Church, where she formerly served on the church board and was a volunteer for vacation Bible school. Mrs. Lazear was a member of the former Aleppo Grange in Ryerson Station, and a former member of Richhill Township Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary.

She attended the former Richhill Township High School in Wind Ridge, and was a graduate of Gerber Beauty School in Akron, Ohio.

Mrs. Lazear was formerly employed as a beautician for Janet Mozina Beauty Shop in Graysville, a waitress and bartender in Cameron and the former Chicken House and Iron Griddle restaurants in Waynesburg and retired from Bob Evans restaurant in Washington. Following retirement, she was employed briefly by Creekside Restaurant in Graysville and was a caregiver for the late Sam Allison in Rock Lick.

She enjoyed genealogy, and was a member of Cornerstone Genealogical Society. She was instrumental in researching and restoring abandoned Greene County cemeteries.

On June 30, 1951, she married Jesse Lazear Jr., who died May 25, 1974.

Surviving are two sons, Thomas Lazear of Athens, Ohio, and James Lazear of Wind Ridge; three daughters, Patti, wife of James Wilson of Graysville, Christy, wife of Ed Hartman of Fallston, N.C., and Cindy, wife of Jerry Jones of Holbrook (Delphene); a sister, Linda Conkey of New Philadelphia, Ohio; 15 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Deceased, in addition to her parents and husband, are a grandson, Jesse Aaron Lazear, and two brothers, Alan Gene and Robert Richard Headley, who both died in early childhood.

Friends will be received from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., the time of service, Saturday, September 27, in Rush Funeral Home Inc., Rogersville, with Pastor James H. Jarvis officiating. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Graysville.
