Veterans Affairs office planning outreach
The Greene County Veterans Affairs office will provide information and services to veterans in communities across the county during this year’s schedule of veterans’ outreach programs.
Outreach will take place starting at 10 a.m. at county senior centers on the following dates:
n May 27 – Jefferson Senior Center, 190 Washington St., Jefferson;
n June 17 – Mt. Morris Senior Center, 303 Mt. Morris Road, Mt. Morris;
n July 28 – Clarksville Senior Center at Clarksville Area Lions Club Community Center, South and Green streets, Clarksville;
n Aug. 27 – West Greene Senior Center, 106 Grange Road, Graysville;
n Oct. 27 – Clarksville Senior Center at Clarksville Area Lions Club Community Center, South and Green streets, Clarksville; and
n Nov. 18 – Carmichaels Senior Center, 100 Nemacolin Road, Carmichaels.
A locally and nationally certified Veterans Service Officer will be on site to answer any questions and assist veterans one-on-one in filing claims.
Veterans residing in each community who are unable to visit the Veterans Affairs office at 22 W. High St., Waynesburg, are encouraged to attend the outreach programs.
The Veterans Affairs office can assist county veterans, their spouses and dependents with any of the following programs and services:
n compensation and pension claims;
n healthcare applications (VA hospitals and Champ VA);
n Dependency and Indemnity Compensation (DIC) and death pension claims;
n life insurance;
n unemployment and homelessness;
n funeral and burial benefit claims;
n education benefits;
n home loans and tax exemptions;
n veterans license plates;
n emergency assistance;
n flags and holders for deceased veterans’ graves;
n organizing Memorial Day and Veterans Day events across the county;
n and other programs and services.
