Greene County man charged after allegedly kicking officer

A Jefferson man was charged after he allegedly kicked an officer while being arrested in Greene County.
State police said Charles Dean, 45, called police on Sunday afternoon after he left the Jefferson Hotel and noticed his vehicle shaking and damaged.
He allegedly observed a green Ford Explorer parked next to his with damage to the rear bumper and an intoxicated man inside. Upon arrival, Trooper James Hanning detected a strong odor of alcohol coming from Thomas J. Tewell’s vehicle. According to the affidavit, the 52-year-old man allegedly become combative and tried to get back in the vehicle, resisting arrest.
Hanning was able to handcuff Tewell and attempted to put him in the squad car when Tewell allegedly leaned back and kicked Hanning in the neck area.
Tewell allegedly began striking his head against the door and backseat cage. He was later transported to the Southwest Regional Medical Center where he refused treatment and blood samples.
Tewell was charged with aggravated assault, driving under the influence, obstructing justice, simple assault, disorderly conduct, harassment, public drunkenness and several traffic violations.
He remains in the Greene County Prison in lieu of $30,000 bail.
