WAYNESBURG — A Waynesburg man facing multiple charges following allegations that he assaulted and threatened to kill his girlfriend during an altercation will have his preliminary hearing for the charges next week.

Waynesburg Borough police said Jeremiah James Davis, 21, was arrested on Monday on charges of aggravated assault, simple assault, harassment, terroristic threats and disorderly conduct.

According to the criminal complaint filed in Magisterial District Judge Glenn Bates’ office, police were dispatched to the intersection of Walnut and Bridges streets in the borough at 11:21 p.m. Sunday for a report of domestic violence occurring.

When they arrived at the scene, police noticed a vehicle parked at the intersection with a female, who identified herself as Leann Leonard, standing beside it who was bleeding from her swollen right eye, hands and both knees, the complaint states.

Leonard told police that she and her boyfriend, Davis, had been drinking at a bar to celebrate her birthday; after Davis became intoxicated, she left the bar and went to her mother’s house, and shortly after arriving there Davis arrived and began to threaten her life and her mother’s life, the complaint states.

Leonard reported that Davis was told to leave the premises but he refused, and to avoid further conflict she left her mother’s house and went with him; during the car ride from her mother’s house to Davis’ friend’s house, she said, Davis punched her in the face three times, choked her and threatened to kill her, saying “I’ll kill you, I’ll snap your neck,” the complaint states.

Leonard said she then attempted to escape from Davis by getting out of the vehicle at a stop sign at the intersection where police found her, and Davis then pushed her, causing her to fall onto the sidewalk and cut her hand and both of her knees and chip her teeth, police said.

Police said a nearby resident called 911 after he heard screaming outside of his house, and when the resident went outside after making the call, Davis fled the scene on foot; EMS arrived and treated Leonard at the scene because she stated she did not want to go the hospital, and police secured Leonard’s vehicle on Bridge Street, the complaint states.

Police then transported Leonard to the borough police station, where her injuries were photographed; Police then asked Leonard if she would provide police with a written statement of what occurred, and she consented, the complaint states.

In the early morning hours on Monday, police arrested Davis and he was arraigned on the charges before Bates. Following arraignment, Davis was placed in Greene County Prison in lieu of $15,000 straight cash bail.

His preliminary hearing has been tentatively scheduled to be held before Bates on Thursday, Aug. 20.
