Edward F. Zeglen Sr.

Edward F. Zeglen Sr., of Clarksville, passed away unexpectedly Monday, December 7, 2015 in Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, West Virginiaa, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born October 10, 1939, in Royal, a son of the late George and Agnes Lucostic Zeglen.

Also deceased are two brothers, John and Joseph Zeglen, and three sisters, Anne Bordeleau, Antoinette Skobel and Mary Fell.

Mr. Zeglen was the business manager for a youth development center and then for the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections in Waynesburg, retiring after 40 years. He and his wife had their own accounting and income tax practice for 50 years.

He was a 1957 graduate of Redstone High School and a 1961 graduate of Penn State University with a bachelor of science degree in business administration.

Mr. Zeglen was known to all as Santa for over 40 years and played Santa twice on Sunday, December 6, 2015. He donated all of his proceeds to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and Mothers Hope Foundation. He enjoyed his yard at Christmas for all to see, putting over 150 light-up ornaments each year. He and his wife participated in the annual Waynesburg Christmas Parade and received the 2014 Special Distinguished Service Award from the Waynesburg Area Chamber of Commerce.

In the 1970s, he was a co-founder and president of Greene Valley Youth Activities. He enjoyed coaching his sons in baseball and watching them participate in all sports. He was an avid Penn State football fan from the time that Joe Paterno was an assistant until today. They had season tickets for over 20 years. He also enjoyed watching the Pirates and Steelers.

He was a member of Knights of Columbus Waynesburg Council 12703 and National Society of Tax Professionals. He had taught defensive driving for the AARP in Greene County and delivered Meals On Wheels for several years.

Surviving are his loving wife, Sandy Tassone Zeglen of 56 years; two sons, Edward Jr. and fiancé Gloria Conklin of Clarksville and Michael and wife Linda of Rices Landing; a daughter-in-law, Roberta Zeglen; two grandsons, Edward Zeglen III and Mateusz Zeglen and fiancé Georganna Ferek; two step-grandsons, Brandon (Kristin) and Chad Teasdale; four step-great-grandchildren, Gavin, Carrington, Urijah and Nadia Teasdale; siblings Helen Oshinsky of Akron, Ohio, Rose Eshelman of Inverness, Florida, and George Zeglen (Fran) of Cleveland, Ohio; and sisters-in-law Joanne Zeglen of Massilon, Ohio, and Margaret Zeglen of Grindstone; and several nephews and nieces.

Friends will be received from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday and 2 to 8 p.m. Friday in Behm Funeral Homes Inc., 1477 Jefferson Road, Jefferson, PA 15344, Gregory P. Rohanna, supervisor, where a blessing service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 12, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in St. Marcellus Roman Catholic Church, 1340 Jefferson Road, Jefferson, PA 15344, with the Rev. J. Francis Frazer officiating. Interment will follow in Lafayette Memorial Park, 132 Twin Hills Road, Brier Hill, PA 15415.
