WAYNESBURG — Central Greene School Board wrapped up business for the year Monday by reorganizing and convincing Russ Moore to stay on as acting athletic director.

Prior to its regular meeting, the board re-elected Andrew Corfont as president; John Bristor as vice president and Sharon Bennett as assistant secretary.

Board appointments included Beth Hellems to a three-year term on the board of the Greene County Career and Technology Center; John Jacobs as an alternate to the GCCTC board; Corfont as the district’s representative to the Pennsylvania School Board Association; Kevin Barnhart as the PSBA legislative chairperson; and Bennett as the PSBA employee relations contact.

The board will continue to meet the second and third Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. in the board room on South Cumberland St. in Waynesburg. The December reorganization and regular board meeting will be held at 6 p.m. Dec. 6, 2016.

Last month, Moore submitted his resignation as head football coach at Waynesburg Central High School after previously announcing he would retire at the end of this year as athletic director.

But the board Monday approved a recommendation naming Moore as acting athletic director, effective Jan. 4 at a per diem rate of $318.75.

“I guess they want me to stay around until a full-time athletic director is hired,” Moore said. “I am not sure how long that will take but I will be filling in, so to speak, and will help with the transition.”

In other personnel matters, the board approved a recommendation to accept Kirk King’s offer to refuse his stipend as varsity head boys’ basketball coach and then voted to give the money to the Boys’ Basketball Booster Organization. King, meanwhile, is the school district’s solicitor.

Also, the board:

n Hired Alissa Pettit as a speech therapist at Waynesburg Central Elementary School at a prorated salary of $25,380.

n Granted Nicole Gasti, a kindergarten teacher, a child rearing leave for the second semester of the 2015-16 school year, and hired Sarah Maxwell as Gasti’s substitute.

n Approved a maternity leave for Danielle Eddy, an elementary special education teacher, effective Dec. 7 through the second semester.
