WCCC nursing graduates excel on licensure exam
YOUNGWOOD — The performance of Westmoreland County Community College’s 2015 associate degree nursing graduates on the national licensure examination exceeded the national and state averages.
WCCC nursing graduates achieved an 87.5 percent pass rate on the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN), surpassing the national pass rate of 84.18 percent and the state’s pass rate of 87.17 percent.
The pass rate is determined by the number of graduates who passed the exam on their initial attempt from Oct. 1, 2014 through Sept. 30, 2015.
“The faculty and students worked together for this high achievement and I am pleased with the results,” said Sue Wojciechowski Snyder, RN, MSN, interim Nursing Program director. “This once again demonstrates the excellence of the Nursing Program at WCCC.”
The NCLEX-RN pass rate qualified WCCC’s associate degree nursing program for full-approval status by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing.
“I’m very proud of our faculty and our students. This achievement wouldn’t be possible without their hard work,” said Rebecca Gediminskas, DNP, RN, interim dean of Health Professions and Natural Sciences. “We are a passionate family of nursing. We are honored to have educated so many outstanding nurses who are staffing healthcare organizations in western Pennsylvania and beyond. In fact, we would like to invite our alumni interested in teaching to contact us – to help us transform lives.”
WCCC offers a two-year associate degree nursing program requiring 72 credits of coursework.
Advanced standing is available for licensed practical nurses who wish to earn an associate degree.
WCCC conducts associate degree nursing programs at the Youngwood campus, Greene County Center in Waynesburg and Indiana County Center in Indiana.
Applicants must meet admission criteria before being admitted to the program. The application deadline for the fall 2016 program is Jan. 5.
