Wreaths Across America event to honor veterans

1 min read

On Saturday, Dec. 12, members of the Carmichaels community and surrounding areas will gather together at the Laurel Point Cemetery to honor veterans during the holiday season as part of the annual Wreaths Across America Day.

This year’s theme is “Every stone has a story.”

The Carmichaels Women’s Civic Club has volunteered to conduct the WAA ceremony for the fifth consecutive year at the Laurel Point Cemetery starting at 12 p.m.

Seven ceremonial wreaths will be placed to remember those who served, honor their sacrifices and teach younger generations about the high cost of our freedoms.

This year, club members and volunteers will lay 320 wreaths on the graves of the veterans buried at the cemetery.

The American Legion Post 400 Honor Guard and the Carmichaels VFW Post 3491 will be participating in the wreath laying ceremony. The American Legion Post 400 Band, under the direction of Frank Ricco, will begin playing military selections at 11:30 a.m. near the monument at the cemetery.

Ricco will serve as master of ceremony and state Rep. Pam Snyder, D-Jefferson, will be the guest speaker.

The public is invited to attend.
