Flenniken Library announces upcoming events
The Flenniken Public Library, located at 102 East George Street in Carmichaels, recently announced the following schedule for January. For more information about any of the upcoming events, call the library at 724-966-5263.
n In observance of New Year’s Day, the library will be closed on Friday, Jan. 1.
n Book Club for Adults: Book Club will discuss “A Tree Grows in Brooklyn” on Tuesday, Jan. 5 at 6:30 p.m. Book Club will meet the first Tuesday of the month at 6:30 p.m.
n Lose Weight and Keep it Off: Is your New Year’s resolution to lose weight? Sign up for this six-week online Gale Course, which starts on Wednesday, Jan. 13 and is free with your library card. Sign up at www.flenniken.org.
n Personal Finance Class: Need help creating and sticking to a budget? Sign up for this six-week online Gale Course, which starts on Wednesday, Jan. 13 and is free with your library card. Sign up at www.flenniken.org.
n Online Classes: Gale Courses, free six-week online classes, begin Wednesday, Jan. 13. The courses include topics such as accounting, grant writing, computer skills, web design and more.
n Arbors – Make Your Own Valentines: Get ready to show family and friends how much you love them. The library will provide supplies to craft your own Valentines on Wednesday, Jan. 13 at 3 p.m. at the Arbors.
n In observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, the library will be closed on Monday, Jan. 18.
n Local Author Book Signing: Billie Allen, author of “Superstar and Broken Wings,” is back with her latest book, “Love Interrupted.” Come to the library on Wednesday, Jan. 20 at 6 p.m. for a special meet and greet, purchase the newest book in the series and have it signed.
n eBooks 101 Classes: Receive a new tablet, eReader, or smart phone over the holidays? Learn how to borrow eBooks for free with your library card on Thursday, Jan. 21. Seniors class is at 2 p.m., teens class is at 3 p.m., kids class is at 4 p.m. and adults class is at 6 p.m. These classes are “BYOD” – Bring Your Own Device and registration is required. Call the library to sign up.
n Fall Prevention with Senior Life: Senior Life representatives will share tips on how to prevent falls and injury with seniors and their care takers on Monday, Jan. 25 at 2 p.m.
n Preschool and Toddler Classes: Preschool Class starts back Jan. 26 on Tuesdays at 11 a.m with stories, songs and crafts. Perfect for ages 3 to 5 and their parents. Classes will run through May 10. Call the library to sign up.
Toddler Time starts back on Jan. 29 on Fridays at 11 a.m. with stories, songs and crafts. Perfect for toddlers up to three years old and their parents. Classes will run through May 13. Call the library to sign up.
n Elementary Book Club and Reading Competition Information Session: Do you have an elementary-age student interested in the Greene County Reading Competition? The library is hosting a weekly book club to prepare students for the competition on May 10. Information on both the book club and the competition will be shared with parents and their students on Wednesday, Jan. 27 at 4:45 p.m.
n Crafternoon: Starting Jan. 28, drop by the library any time between 3 and 5 p.m. on Thursdays to craft with friends. Open to all ages. The library will provide the supplies – you provide the creativity. The craft activity on Jan. 28 will be Groundhog Puppets.
