Bowlby Library announces January events
The Eva K. Bowlby Public Library in Waynesburg recently the following events for January. For more information about these events, call the library at 724-627-9776.
n T.O.P.S. — Taking Off Pounds Sensibly is a weight management support group that meets every Saturday from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the library. New members are always welcome.
n The library will be closed on Friday, Jan. 1, for New Year’s Day, and on Monday, Jan. 18 in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.
n The library is offering Adult Craft Night twice a month: the first Thursday, Jan. 7, from 5 to 7 p.m., and the second Saturday, Jan. 9, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. The craft project is a painted pallet wood snowman and the cost for materials is $20. Call the library for more information or to register.
n The Bowlby Library Children’s Department is offering a Saturday Story Hour on Jan. 23 at 11 a.m. Children ages 4 to 6 years of age are invited to attend for “All Aboard: Let’s Learn about Transportation.” Call the library to register your child(ren).
n The library will be hosting an informational session for Caregivers on Wednesday, Jan. 27, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Samantha Story-Camp, outreach coordinator for SeniorLife, will be sharing information on how SeniorLife can help caregivers take care of the seniors in their lives. Register for this session by calling the library.
n The Bowlby Library Book Club will meet on Monday, Jan. 11, at 6 p.m. at the library. The book discussion will be on “Wild” by author Cheryl Strayed. New members are invited to join.
n The library is offering free computer classes during the month of January:
— “How Do I Use This Device?” on Monday, Jan. 4, from 6 to 7:45 p.m. This class is for patrons who have trouble with their tablet or smartphone. Bring device to this class.
— “Getting Started with a PC” on Monday, Jan. 11, from 6 to 7:45 p.m. is for beginners who have little or no experience with a computer. Students will learn basic parts of a computer, how to properly turn on and off a computer, and basic internet browsing.
— “Using MS Word” on Monday, Jan. 25, from 6 to 7:45 p.m. In this class, students will learn how to create and save documents, work with text, format characters and paragraphs and print a document. Basic mouse and keyboarding skills are required.

n Join the library for a Family Movie Night @ Your Library on Wednesday, Jan. 27, at 6 p.m. The library will be previewing “Goosebumps,” a movie based on the popular children’s book series. Free popcorn for all attendees. Seating is limited, so call to pre-register.
n The Adult Literacy program at the Bowlby Library offers free test preparation for the GED, civil service exams, and drivers licensing and life skills. Also, any adult wishing to brush up on their basic reading and math skills can do so at no charge through the Family Literacy Department at the library. The department also offers free tutoring for school-age children for the upcoming spring semester. Now is the time to focus on difficult subjects (reading, writing, and math) in a relaxed atmosphere. n The Bowlby Library Board of Trustees will meet at the library on Monday, Jan. 25, at 6:30 p.m. The board meetings of the library are free and open to the public. Community members are encouraged to attend. If there are specific issues you would like to raise or have interest in making a brief presentation during a community forum – which is held immediately preceding the board meeting – contact the director well in advance to give the library the best opportunity for accommodating you on the evening’s agenda. n The Friends of the Bowlby Public Library is accepting new members. Joining the organization is easy and your tax-deductible donation will benefit the library. The Friends of the Library group consists of people who care about libraries and who are interested in promoting the welfare and growth of the Bowlby Library.
