Antoni (Tony) Czyzewski, age 90, of Carmichaels died February 7, 2015 in Kindred Hospital, Oakdale.

Mr. Czyzewski was born June 13, 1924 in Zastawie, Poland, the son of the late Antoni and Marie Baranska Czyzewski.

On February 18, 1948, Tony married Janina Szemelak Czyzewski who died December 16, 2003.

Mr. Czyzewski is survived by a son, Edward Czyzewski; five grandchildren, Dr. William Czyzewski, Dr. Nick Czyzewski and wife, Heather, Kristi Czyzewski, Lyndee Czyzewski, Sarah Czyzewski; two great-granddaughters, Sydney Jane and Abigail Reese Czyzewski; two step-grandchildren, Morgan and Hunter Voithofer; a daughter-in-law, Debra Czyzewski; a brother, Bronec Czyzewski of Opole, Poland and two sisters, Josephine Januszkiewicz of Olawa, Poland and Katherine Wisniewski of Opole, Poland.

Deceased are a son, Mario Czyzewski; two brothers, Walter and John and two sisters, Janina and Helen.

Tony was a survivor of the tumultuous years of World War II, when Poland was invaded from the East by the Red Army and the West by the Nazis. He was captured by the Reds at the start of the war, and held at the Kolema Prison Camp. He escaped and crossed Russia back to Poland. He aided Polish Resistance Fighters in blowing up bridges and disrupting Red Army supply lines. He was later captured by Nazi forces and sent to the Cele Prison Camp, and did hard labor until the camp was liberated.

He came to America after the war and started Jenny Rose Fishing Lakes near Carmichaels with his wife. He was also a Dairy Farmer, operated the Greene Mine Service, Tony’s Lounge, and Cumberland Building Supply, over the years. He was never a stranger to hard work, and was forever grateful for the opportunities America gave him.

Tony enjoyed bowling, fishing, Mike’s softball and baseball with his family. He travelled extensively through Europe and the U.S.A. in his later years.

He was a member of St. Hugh Church, Carmichaels.

Friends will be received in the Lesako Funeral Home Inc., 204 Dowlin Avenue, Carmichaels, Pa., 15320, (724-966-5100), Paul M. Lesako, Funeral Director/Supervisor, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 9 to 9:30 a.m. the time of a Prayer Service in the funeral home followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. in St. Hugh Church, Carmichaels. Interment will follow in Laurel Point Cemetery, Carmichaels. Parish Wake Service at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home.
