Former commissioner announces plans to return to office
A former Greene County commissioner announced his candidacy for the upcoming commissioner race.
Franklin Township resident Dave Coder said Thursday that he is returning to seek the Democratic nomination — a job that he held from 1996 to 2010. Coder said he is returning because he “misses the job and the challenges, and working locally.”
“I am excited to start my campaign for county commissioner today to help move Greene County forward,” Coder said. “Having served the interests of Greene County at all levels of government, I am glad to again have an opportunity to have a positive impact on people’s lives as County Commissioner.”
During his previous terms in the commissioner’s office, Coder was the recipient of the Governor’s Award for Local Government Excellence. He also spent his time serving as the president of the County Commissioner’s Association of Pennsylvania.
Coder’s other political and leadership experiences include serving as the chairman of the Southwestern Commission, Deputy District Director for Congressman Mark S. Critz and as Chief of Staff for Pam Snyder, state representative. He is also a member of the Pennsylvania Democratic State Committee and on the executive board of the Greene County Democratic Committee.
“Continuing the work of saving coal jobs and creating economic development is my passion and I believe I will bring a record of results to the county that will help all of our citizens,” Coder said. “I believe we’ve got a good opportunity to continue to provide jobs for our young people so they can continue to grow and stay in Greene County.”
In addition to his political background, Coder also served in the U.S. Coast Guard for four years. After graduating from Mapletown High School, he studied business administration at Waynesburg University.
“I am encouraged by the great response I have received from friends and neighbors across Greene County,” Coder said.
