Current Greene County Commissioner Charles “Chuck” Morris, 65, has announced that he will seek the Democratic nomination in the upcoming primary.

Morris came into the office in August 2010, and has served as chairman since late 2012 after the departure of Pam Snyder.

Throughout his time as commissioner, Morris said he has accomplished several things, including: revitalizing and redeveloping houses throughout the county, improving and fostering cooperation between county offices, hiring a director at the Industrial Development Authority, fixing the collapsing ceiling in the county courthouse, upgrading the playground and pool at Mon View Park, and attempting to solve water issues throughout the county.

“I enjoy all of the work,” Morris said. “I think we have done a lot and I would like to see all of that through.”

If re-elected, Morris has several things he wants to implement and continue during his next term.

“I will continue to look to do more of the same by attracting businesses,” he said. “It’s not the easiest thing to do with other counties around, but it has to be the primary focus.”

Morris also hopes to finish up various projects, including improvements the project at the Greene County Airport. He said he wants to continue to address housing with the 51-unit senior living complex that is scheduled to break ground within the next couple of months.

Morris served as the district attorney in Greene County from 1980 to 1988, and on the county’s planning committee from March 2008 to August 2010.

The Cumberland Township native graduated from Carmichaels High School and attended college at the University of Notre Dame, followed by law school at Duquesne University.

Morris, a member of the Southwest Pennsylvania Commission, also is a member of various organizations in the county. He is a member of the Courts and Corrections Committee of County Commissioners Association of Pennsylvania, and serves on the Children and Youth advisory board and the Greene County Tourism Agency.

Morris has resided in Franklin Township for the last 26 years with his wife, Janice, and the couple has two children, Jenna and Trevor.
