Lillian B. Barney

Lillian B. Barney, 90, of West Finley, Richhill Township, Greene County, died at 12:50 a.m. Tuesday, June 30, 2015, in her home, after experiencing failing health since April.

She was born February 15, 1925, in Richhill Township, in the home where she passed away, a daughter of Jesse Edward and Ollie Luellen Cheek Clutter. She resided there her entire life.

Mrs. Barney was a member of Crabapple Community Church, Wind Ridge, where she was a former member of the board of directors. She received a 50-year Sunday school pin from the church. She had served as a Sunday school teacher, vacation Bible school instructor and was a volunteer with the Bible release program for several years. She also was the founder and leader of Wednesday night prayer meetings at the church.

Mrs. Barney was an avid reader and loved crossword puzzles. She was an animal lover who enjoyed cooking and baking and was known for her German chocolate cake. She never met a stranger. She was a contributor to several Christian organizations and loved and adored her family.

On September 9, 1945, she married Carl Burdette Barney, who died August 7, 2012.

Surviving are three daughters, Carol Ann Andrew and Sharon and husband Roger Creech, both of Nineveh, and Sandy and husband Ernie Bedillion of East Finley Township; three sons, Richard and wife Linda Barney of West Finley, Roland and wife Coleen Barney of Waynesburg and C. Bruce and wife Lisa Barney of Warrenton, Virginia; 16 grandchildren, Tammy and husband Bryan Yukon, Amy Sue Andrew, Alan and husband Vincent Andrew, Tiffany and husband Aaron Yanuzo, Dustin and wife Summer Barney, Brooke and husband Jason Mumford, Katrina and Wesley Barney, Nathan and wife Michelle Simmons, Dr. David Simmons and wife Megan Simmons, Tommy Simmons, Rachel and husband Chuck Huggins, Renee and husband Wesley Cranmer, Lori and husband Scott Litwinovich, Tracy Lawry and companion Joe Long, and Amber and husband Scott Finch; 20 great-grandchildren, Amber and husband Norman Felmlee, Matthew Yukon, Sofia, Sasha and Dawson Barney, Wyatt Mumford, Amelia Simmons, Cameron and wife Larissa Henry, Lilliana and Lucca Huggins, Jonathan and Marshall Cranmer, Haiden Litwinovich, Isabella and Kayla Lawry, Zoe Long and Jett, Jerich, Jayden and Jordan Finch; and several nieces and nephews.

Deceased, in addition to her parents and husband, are two brothers, Herman and Albert Clutter; two half sisters, Lenora Miller and Nellie Shurden; two half brothers, James “Buss” and Elroy Paul Clutter; and a son-in-law, Charles Andrew.

Friends will be received from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., the time of funeral and committal services, Saturday, July 4, in Ryerson South Wheeling Baptist Church, Wind Ridge, with Pastor David McElroy officiating. Interment will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
