Carmichaels Borough Council agreed to use money generated through the gas industry to continue with road paving projects this summer.
At Tuesday night’s council meeting, borough manager Brandi Wydo said the borough has a total of $51,454.70 in Act 13 Impact Fees that could be earmarked for the project.
The money generated through the Marcellus Shale gas industry includes $26,742.22 that is left over from last year and an additional $24,712.48 from this year.
“Last year, we did parts of three main roads, and we’re going to put out bids for quotes to repair roads this summer,” Wydo said.
“We’re not really sure of the list of roads at this time. We will be paving portions of roads that are torn up.”
In 2014, Wydo said the borough paved three main roads with Act 13 Impact Fees.
The roads included in the project were part of Green Street, the entire Spruce Alley and part of South Market Street in front of Gabler’s.
Wydo said the borough plans to pave one main road and sections of other roads that have significant potholes.
“PennDOT just came through and did the town square all the way to George Street. They will also be painting the lines back on the road,” she said.
In other news, Fred Clark of Clark’s Nursery is donating a green Spruce tree to the borough.
The tree is easy to maintain. During the holidays, it will be decorated and used as the borough’s Christmas tree.
