Mary A. Gacek
Mary A. Gacek, 86, of Mather, died Tuesday, July 28, 2015, in Donnell House, Washington.
She was born June 25, 1929, in Mather, a daughter of the late Matt and Barbara Gusic Grasha.
Mrs. Gacek was a 1947 graduate of Jefferson High School.
She lived her entire life in Mather and was a member of St. Marcellus Roman Catholic Church in Jefferson since 1934. She was also a member of Jefferson Senior Citizens Center and Croatian Fraternal Union 354, Cokeburg.
Church and faith was of utmost importance to her, along with spending time with her family. Mrs. Gacek loved spending time with her grandchildren. In her earlier years, she was also known for her wonderful baking and passed many favorite recipes on to her family.
On June 11, 1949, she married Louis J. “Louie” Gacek Sr., who died December 1, 2000.
Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Louis J. Jr. and Betsy Gacek of Harmony; two grandchildren, Kathryn Rebecca Zink and husband Ron of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Anthony Joseph Gacek and wife Jaime of Irwin; four great-grandchildren, Josie Zink, Sara Zink, Maria Gacek and Ryan Gacek; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased is a daughter, Barbara Ann Gacek Whatley; two sisters, Catherine Paluda and Anna Zugel; seven brothers, Anthony Grasha, Matt Grasha, Rudolph Grasha, John Grasha, Joseph Grasha, George Grasha and Frank Grasha.
Family and friends will be received from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday in Behm Funeral Homes Inc., 1477 Jefferson Road, Jefferson, PA 15344, Gregory P. Rohanna, supervisor. A blessing service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, August 3, in Behm Funeral Home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in St. Marcellus Roman Catholic Church, Jefferson, with Fr. J. Francis Frazer as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Ann Cemetery, Waynesburg.
