Snyder: $3.4 million approved for Dry Tavern sewerage upgrade

By For The Greene County Messenger 1 min read

State Rep. Pam Snyder, D-Jefferson, said the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority – Pennvest – has approved $3.4 million for the Dry Tavern Sewer Authority to extend and bolster sewer service in the Pumpkin Run area of Jefferson Township, Greene County.

“The financing will spare customers from rate increases while significantly improving service,” Snyder said. “The project will eliminate discharges of raw sewage caused by wildcat and malfunctioning systems prevalent in the area.”

The $4.1 million project features construction of a pump station along Ferncliff Road, as well as more than 25,000 feet of sewer lines. Construction is expected to begin this August with completion anticipated in July 2016.

“More than 100 new customers are projected to join the Dry Tavern system because of the expansion project,” Snyder said. “The project is a major upgrade to the area’s infrastructure.”

The financing includes a $2.7 million grant, a non-repayment made possible by funding from various sources, usually including Marcellus Shale impact fees. The package includes a $741,500, 20-year loan at 1 percent interest.

A $500,000 grant from the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers and tap fees also will be applied to the project costs.
