Rohanna closes with 2-over 74

Rachel Rohanna described her final round of the Self Regional Healthcare Foundation Women’s Health Classic as “up and down,” but when all was said and done Sunday she rebounded on the back nine to shoot 2-over 74 to finish tied for 57th place.

She opened the final round tied in 52nd place.

The Waynesburg Central graduate finished with a four-day total of 11-over 299 with three rounds of 74 and a third-round total of 5-over 77 at Links at Stony Point in Greenwood, S.C. She won $716.

Mexico’s Alejandra Llaneza shot 1-under 71 in the final round for a four-round total of 10-under 278 for the title and $30,000 pay day.

“(The fourth round) wasn’t like I felt the past three days,” said Rohanna. “I had a bad hole, then a good hole. Nothing was really consistent.”

The front nine was rather uneventful through the first eight holes with two bogeys, a birdie and five pars.

“I was 1-over through my first eight holes. I thought if I can make the turn at 1-over, I felt I could score on the back,” said Rohanna.

That plan went awry with a double bogey on No. 9.

“I hit my drive out-of-bounds and had to re-tee. I ended up with a double bogey,” said Rohanna, who made the turn at 3-over 39.

The rollercoaster round really took hold after Rohanna made the turn with a birdie-4, bogey-5 and birdie-3. She parred No. 13 and then carded a third birdie on the back on No. 14. Rohanna closed with three pars and bogey-4 to play the back in 1-under 35.

“I had four birdies, four bogeys and a double bogey. It wasn’t a terrible day,” said Rohanna. “I had five double bogeys over four days. That’s never good on your scorecard.

“As the week went on, I was unsure of my shots. On the 16th hole, I hit one way right. The last thing you want to do is think.”

Rohanna didn’t feel playing over four rounds had an effect.

“It’s funny. When I’m playing well, I want a three-day tournament. When I’m not playing well, I want to get back on the course and finish on a strong note. I want the course to give my one more chance,” explained Rohanna. “It’s a grinding four days. It’s hard on your body.”

Links at Stony Point was not a course suited for Rohanna’s game.

“I knew from last year this course is different. It’s not a preferred set up for me,” said Rohanna.

Coming off her first Symetra Tour title two weeks ago, Rohanna was glad to be playing over the weekend.

“I’m happy I made the cut. I’ll take my money and run,” said Rohanna.

The trend of family members on her bag continued this past week with her husband Ethan Virgili serving as her caddy.

Rohanna now turns her focus to the 36-hole U.S. Open qualifier at Butler Country Club on Monday, May 18. She plans to spend the week working on her game and maybe do some shopping.

“I’m taking the next week off and focus on the Open qualifier. I really like the putter I have now, but I might look for another putter for a different look, different feel,” said Rohanna, who will likely have her younger sister Emily on her bag. “It’s a big change going back up north in May. The grass is different and the rough seems to be thicker.”

Rohanna has played in two U.S. Opens, in 2011 when she qualified as a first alternate and 2013 in New York, where she nearly made the cut. The 2015 U.S. Women’s Open will be held at Lancaster Country Club.

“It’s close to home,” Rohanna said of Lancaster, adding with a laugh. “I hope the odd years are in my favor.”
