Hearing continued for man charged with assaulting wife
CARMICHAELS – The preliminary hearing has been continued for a Richhill Township man arrested on charges stemming from allegations that he struck his wife with a baseball bat following an argument on April 30.
John A. Brogley, 52, was charged with aggravated assault, simple assault and harassment after police said he struck Sally Lee Senay-Brogley with a wooden baseball bat six times during an altercation at their residence on Ackley Creek Road in Richhill Township between 8 and 8:45 p.m. April 30.
According to the criminal complaint, state police were called to Washington Hospital early morning on May 1 to speak with Senay-Brogley; the woman told police that she and her husband got into an argument while coming home from a bar and when they arrived home she went inside and locked all of the doors.
Brogley then entered the house and approached Senay-Brogley, who was sitting on the couch with a baseball bat beside her; as they continued to argue, Brogley grabbed the bat and struck her about the head and body six times and also pulled her hair, the complaint states.
Police observed that Senay-Brogley had swollen fingers and she reported pain to her back and head, the complaint states.
Brogley was arraigned on the charges by District Judge Lee Watson and placed in jail in lieu of $15,000 cash bail. His preliminary hearing was scheduled for May 7 but has been continued. A new date for the hearing has not yet been scheduled.
