Waynesburg man charged with sexually abusing 12-year-old

A Waynesburg man faces indecent assault and related charges after inappropriately touching a 12-year-old girl, police alleged.
Adam D. Courtwright, 43, of 596 Bowlby Street, was arraigned on three counts each of indecent assault, unlawful sexual contact with a minor and corruption of a minor last week before Greene County Magisterial District Judge Glenn Bates.
According to the criminal complaint filed by Waynesburg Police Chief Robert J. Toth, an unnamed woman initially reported to police that her daughter had been sexually abused on Sept. 2, 2012.
Courtwright was interviewed first by Toth, the complaint states. Courtwright reportedly described the alleged victim as being “smart and truthful” and allegedly admitted “rubbing her back, legs and buttocks,” however he would not write this admission down “because it would make him look guilty.”
The following month, Courtwright underwent a forensic interview at Washington Hospital, police said.
In that interview, he allegedly admitted to touching her under her shorts and touching her breasts, which took place in her bedroom, police said.
In 2012, Toth indicated in the criminal affidavit, the decision was made not to follow through with filing charges.
Because names of the alleged victim and her mother, who reported the abuse, are redacted from the complaint, it is unclear whether the girl, her mother, or someone else involved in the case made the decision to forego charges in 2012.
On March 5, the alleged victim and her mother approached police to discuss the 2012 incident again, the complaint states.
A forensic interview of the alleged victim was conducted on March 9, and she iterated Courtwright allegedly touched her private areas and stated it happened on multiple occasions, police said.
Courtwright was released on $20,000 bond. His preliminary hearing was initially scheduled for May 26 but it has been continued.
A new date for the preliminary hearing has not yet been scheduled.
