John Rodney Barna, Jr, age 82, of Waynesburg, died at 2:40 p.m. Saturday, November 21, 2015, at home after a long battle with cancer surrounded by his family.

He was born Sunday, December 11, 1932 in Waynesburg, a son of the late John R. Barna, Sr and Winifred Lahew Barna.

Mr. Barna was a long time member of the Oakview United Methodist Church in Waynesburg. He was a 1951 graduate of Waynesburg High School where he was a state ranked wrestler. He attended Waynesburg College on a wrestling scholarship. He was a 32 year veteran of the PA National Guard and retired as a noncommissioned officer.

John was very proud of his 40 year association with the Izaak Walton League. He was a member of several fraternal and social organizations in Waynesburg and loved fishing and hunting when his health permitted.

He worked for 45 years in the family business Barna’s Furniture and Appliance in Waynesburg.

John was well liked and much loved. He will be deeply missed by family and friends.

In 1951 he married Elizabeth Rinehart and they had five children together; Charlotte (Gary) Heath Cochran, of Onancock, Virginia, Johnna (Neil) Dinan, of Waynesburg, John Rodney (Patti) Barna III, of Waynesburg, Patricia Barna, of Waynesburg and Kimberly (David) Ankrom, of Boyertown.

He married for a second time in 1977 to Helen Adams and they had four children together; Brandon Barna of Waynesburg, Jonathon Barna of Moundsville, West Virginia, Erika (Clay) Barna-Wyne, of Waynesburg and Jamie Barna, of Medina, Ohio. Also surviving are sixteen grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren; three sisters, Mary Burich, of Waynesburg, Barbara Gaskins, of Winter Park, Florida and Joyce Ferencak, of Orlando, Florida; three brothers, Douglas Barna, of Titusville, Florida, Thomas Barna, of Waynesburg and Ross Barna, of Orlando, Florida and several nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 24, 2015 in the Milliken and Throckmorton Funeral Home, Inc., Daryl L. Throckmorton, Owner/Director, 197 N. Maiden St., Waynesburg, where services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 25, 2015, with Rev. Susan Hoover officiating. Burial will be in Greene Co. Memorial Park, Morgan Twp. Graveside Military Rites will be accorded by James Farrell American Legion Post #330 of Waynesburg and Representatives of the U.S. Army.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Oakview United Methodist Church, 160 Rolling Meadows Road, Waynesburg, PA 15370.
